Ven

Ven is an island between Sweden and Denmark. It have existed since 4500 BC and there have been different kind of buildings since the stone age. The island belonged to Denmark a long time and it was during that period that Tycho Brahe had built his castle and research Uraniborg. He built the first observatory in Europe. The island became Swedish in the 1600s.

Mike, Rich and I went to Ven yesterday (Saturday) to bike around. We took the boat from Landskrona over to the island and rented bikes there. We biked around the whole island and just had fun. We brought our own lunch and stopped to eat it in one of the small harbors. We were lucky with the weather. Sunny and 20C. Only bad thing is that it was very windy on one side of the island. It was a very fun day =)

BBQ on the beach

We had a BBQ on the beach Saturday night. Me and Mike went down to the beach at 6 pm and then the rest started coming a little after 6.30 pm. Everybody brought down what they were going to eat and Mike and I made sausages, pepper and onions. Yum! Then we made smores for dessert. Josefin had her Kubb game with her so we played a round of that. We called it a night when we ran out of stuff to burn and it started to get cold a little after 11 pm.


It was Sweden's National Day Sunday. We don't celebrate it a lot. The King held a speech and people had their flags up in the back yard. We celebrated with ribs and pecan pie =)

Kubb and carnival

I'm teaching Mike how to play the game kubb. It's a game the Vikings played. You play it in two teams and then you throw "sticks" and try to knock over the other teams little blocks. So far I've won every round we've played =)

Lunda Karnevalen was this weekend. It's a carnival arranged by the students at the University of Lund. It's a very big thing and it's only happening every 4 years. Saturday and Sunday they have a parade with 16 trucks going by that is all decorated after this years theme. The theme this year was right and wrong. Then there are 30 different students for each truck that runs around acting crazy and all of them are dressed up according to their truck. There is also a big area with tents and different activities, there are also 5 or 6 different shows and a movie. I saw two of the shows this year and they were hilarious!!

Mike is coming to town

Mike is coming here on Sunday. I'm so excited!! He's staying until July 22nd. So got a little more than 2 months. He wasn't supposed to come until next Sunday but because of strikes and canceled flights did he have to rebook his flight.

And then Rich is coming on the 9th (I think it is). Another awesome summer =)

A student with no money... I've been looking for a summer job since the beginning of February. It's not an easy thing. I have been sending in my papers to every company in sight. I got a call today from one of the companies (finally!!). I'm going to deliver news papers every other weekend. My first weekend will be May 15/16. I've never been good with mornings.. so this will be interesting haha!!

Work work work

Last week, this week and next week. No school, but work. We are out working at elderly homes. It's a lot of fun and I have learned a lot of new stuff. It's fun to see everything in real life now that we have read about in class before. I'm walking around with one of the nurses. =)

(There are two kinds of nurses; first the nurse that does all the medical stuff and then there are nurses that's taking care of the patients 24/7. I'm walking around with one of the "real" nurses).

Party Saturday night

It was a "sittning" that the students from the first semester arranged for students from the second semester. Everyone was supposed to be dressed up after the theme. In Sweden we have many words that's put together by two other words and then get a different meaning. Like if you take the word chicken and alive and put them together you get chicken liver. I dressed up as what whipped cream would be if you took the word apart, in Swedish that would be whisk and cream. I hope you all understand my try to explain the whole thing.

This is me Saturday night. The white clothes for cream and then I guess you can figure out the rest =)

It was a fun night. It started out with a three-course dinner and then dance. There were also a lot of singing, like on Midsummer. The most popular song was the Lambo song.
